Winter 2020 Announcements

posted Dec 22, 2020, 6:49 PM by Serenity Ridge   [ updated Dec 22, 2020, 6:52 PM ]

Hello everyone!  We had a great turnout for the Annual General Meeting which took place on October 27, 2020 via a Zoom call!  Thank you to all who attended.  We have a few announcements we’d like to share:

1.    Fall Clean-Up Update – The clean-up went very well on October 17!  The group was able to clean up the dune grass and trim overgrown trees/bushes at the Timber Winds entrance.  Weeding and pine needle clean-up were also done at the Grand Bluffs entrance.  Thank you to Dan Arsulowicz, Greg Simsa, Jerry VanderSloot, Deb Terborg, Gary Lorenz, Kevin DeVisser, Tom & Pat Macholan and Paul & Marie Kenny for all the volunteer hours needed to get the job done!

In addition to those clean-up efforts, Tom & Pat Macholan and Greg Simsa were able to trim a large oak branch hanging over the road on the Timber Winds circle.  We also hired a tree service to cut a large oak branch hanging over the road on the Grand Bluffs Drive hill.  This all took place in November due to a certain cutting timeframe of oak trees.

2.    Board Members – Your board members for 2021 are as follows:

John Woodward – President (1st term, 2 years)

Pat Macholan – Treasurer (2nd term, 2 years)

Marie Kenny – Secretary (2nd term, 1 year left)

Thank you to Gary Lorenz for serving as President the past 4 years (2 terms)!!

3.    Homeowners Dues – The annual dues have been raised to $1,365 for 2021.  Due statements will be sent out in early January.  The payment due date is March 1, 2021.

4.    Street Sign – New street signs were ordered for the corner of Timber Winds Drive and Grand Bluffs Drive since the original wooden sign had deteriorated at the bottom and fell over.  Thank you to Paul Kenny for installing the sign!

5.    Snowplowing – Carefree Lawn Service will be plowing our neighborhood streets again this year.  They have staked out the neighborhood with short orange stakes.  These stakes are meant to be a guide for the drivers for the first few snowfalls until the snow is piled high enough to then be the guide.  Carefree will collect the stakes in the Spring.  If you find that the stakes aren’t in the ground or not being used for their intended purpose, please collect them and store them away until Spring.

6.    Mailbox Flag Painting – I’m sure most of you have noticed that your mailbox flag, once red, is now pink.  If anyone is interested in having their mailbox flag painted, please contact Tom Macholan ( and he would be happy to do this for you!  In addition, if you need information on ordering a new mailbox or updating your existing one (instructions compliments of Dan Bigelow), please contact Marie Kenny (

We hope you all have a wonderful and safe holiday!

Fall 2020 Announcements

posted Sep 28, 2020, 8:37 PM by Serenity Ridge

This meeting will be held as a virtual Zoom meeting.  Meeting details will be forthcoming in a follow-up email and calendar appointment.  A few important items of discussion are as follows:

  •  Annual Budget
  •  Core Sampling of the Roads
  •  Annual Dues
  •  President and Treasurer Board Positions

BOARD POSITIONS – The board positions of President and Treasurer will need to be filled for the 2021-2022 term.  Gary Lorenz has been our President for the past 4 years.  Pat Macholan has been our Treasurer for the past 2 years.  They have both done an amazing job and we thank them both for their service to our neighborhood.  A perk for being a board member is 50% off your annual dues!  If you are interested in serving as either of these positions, please contact Marie Kenny (

DEAD TREES / TREE BRANCHES OVER ROADWAY – We have noticed there are some low-hanging tree branches over the roadways and dead trees on homeowner property.  With Winter approaching, wind and heavy snow may cause some safety concerns.  We are requesting that all homeowners review their property and take appropriate action as soon as possible to remove any tree branches hanging over the road and any dead trees on your property that may cause a safety concern.

FALL CLEAN-UP – We will be scheduling a Fall clean-up day to trim various trees at the Timber Winds entrance and weed at the Grand Bluffs entrance.  If you are interested in assisting with this clean-up, please contact Marie Kenny (

SNOWPLOWING SERVICE – We have contracted Carefree Lawn Service for our snowplowing service and Priest Lawn Care for our salting needs.  We would like to get your feedback regarding service so we can communicate any requests or concerns for our upcoming season.  If you would like to communicate anything, please contact John Woodward (

Summer 2020 Updates

posted Jun 25, 2020, 12:02 PM by Serenity Ridge

Happy Summer everyone!  We want to update you on a few items that we have been working on the past few weeks.

You may have noticed in various areas of the neighborhood some stakes with a pink flag and pink spray paint on the road.  Those have been placed there by Soils and Structures, a company who will be performing our core testing of the roads.  This will enable us to better gauge the amount of time we have until our roads need replacing.  They will begin work very soon and will be working throughout the neighborhood so please keep an eye out for them.

Van Kempen Electric will be fixing the street light on Timber Winds Drive.  The underground wiring has gone bad so they needed to wait until the ground thawed, then COVID happened.  We are finally back on track to get this repaired!

One of our neighbors had some home repairs done earlier this year and the repairman found termite damage after removing some drywall (their home is 7 years old).  Below is what they described and wanted to get this out to anyone who may want to consider treatment for their home.

"Termites need to move between wood and water daily. So as long as there’s no highly moist wood or wet condensation on pipes in the house the termites need to go between the ground for moisture and wood. This time of year they are hibernating so they don’t go into the wood.  The termites had tunnels approximately 4 feet high from the ground level. And since we only had about a 2 foot wide section of drywall removed, there’s no telling what other entrances they might have have in to our house.  Therefore, treatment around the entire house in case there might be other places where the termites create their tunnels to get between the ground and the wood.  The location happens to be the walkout basement area that faces south southeast. But from everything I would understand that’s not necessarily relevant. So again the entire perimeter of the house is going to be treated which is a usual plan."

We have noticed that both of the entrances are beginning to accumulate weeds and need some attention.  We are working to get both entrances cleaned up!

If you have questions or concerns regarding any of these announcements, please contact one of the Board members.  Enjoy the remainder of your Summer!

Spring 2020 Announcements

posted Apr 19, 2020, 7:42 PM by Serenity Ridge

We want to give you some updates on various things going on in the neighborhood and some useful information.

1.    Last year, we had the burned-out street lights repaired. After they replaced the lamp at the bottom of the gully on Timber Winds Drive, we were informed the cable was bad which is why that lamp burned out again. Since we needed to wait for the ground to thaw, we will plan to get someone out to fix it.

2.    The weather has been warmer and more neighbors are starting to get out for walks.  We would like to remind everyone of some common by-law infractions  (items in RED we have noticed recently).  Please review the below list to ensure you are adhering to them so our neighborhood maintains its beautiful appearance.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact a board member.

§  You cannot rent your home or any portion of it.

§  You are only allowed one 4 square foot professional sign on your property (e.g., for sale sign).

§  Weapons & Fireworks – See Walker city ordinance. None shall be used on common grounds.

§  Pets – you are only allowed 1 dog, cat or two caged birds. More than that requires a written variance from the board.

§  Construction or landscaping – must have written approval from the Architectural Review Committee with design.

§  Everyone must have the same mailbox.

§  Tree removal – Any tree with a diameter or more than 4” must have approval from the Review Committee.

§  No chain link fences.

§  No ATV’s may be driven on our roads or other common association grounds.

3.    Since the weather didn’t cooperate for crack sealing last Fall, we will be working on getting that scheduled.

4.    We have noticed a lot of mailboxes showing their age.  Attached is a document with information on how you can maintain your existing mailbox or purchase a new one.

5.    We are planning a Spring Clean-Up Day again this year.  With the current circumstances, there will be more information to come on the date of this event.

Thank you all for helping make our neighborhood a beautiful place to live!  If you have questions or concerns, please let us know.

Also, just a few reminders for the Fall season:
  • The leaves will soon be falling.  Please keep the catch basin grates near your houses free and clear of leaves.  Doing so will help prevent them from falling into the catch basins which in turn will help defer the cleaning of them which can costly to the neighborhood.
  • Now that school is back in session, please be aware that there are children walking to the bus stops in the morning and it will be dark at that time very soon.  Keep an eye out for the kids walking and standing on the corners!
  • Please ensure that you are abiding by the 25 mph speed limit on our neighborhood roads.  Many neighbors take walks with their kids and dogs in the evening!
If you have questions or concerns, please let us know!
